Kentucky Lake

Where are those hot icky sticky days we've had for the last month?  This would have been perfect then.  Finally we are in a beautiful area with nice clean water and my cruising mates think it's too cold to go swimming.  The water temp has dipped down, yes, but to a pleasant 79.5°F.   The air temp is hovering around a manageable 70° - 75°F (60's at night) but to the others it's....oooo a cold snap!  Woosies I say.

Lake Kentucky has not let us down.  It is everything it was cracked up to be.  The land between the Barkley and Kentucky lakes is called, (oddly enough) The Land Between the Lakes.  It is 170,000 acres of parkland that has scores of bays to discover  all uninhabited and pristine.  We could stay here for weeks.  In fact it reminds us a lot of home and the cruising grounds of southern Georgian Bay.

The first anchorage in Pisgah Bay was unique.  It's a quarry that was flodded many years ago when Kentucky lake was formed.  It was facinating to study the rock walls covered in graffiti of every discription.  If we had time and the supplies I would have loved to leave my mark as well.

The next two anchorages were tranquil and pleasant but darn it.....no swimming.  The sky has been overcast for three days influencing our desire to jump in.

We are on the move again headed for White Oak Bay.  The sun is trying hard to shine!  Today I promise myself to swim no matter what.   But more about that....next time.

  1. The water if so different from river waters hey? It does look lovely there. What a great shot of your boat. NICE!!! Are you still with the other loopers? Are they loopers, or just your current sailing group/friends. As you are headed south, I'm sure you'll find swimming opportunities that suit all. HA! N,x

  2. Hi Norma. They are "loopers" and sadly I didn't go swimming after all. The water was murky and schools of fish were jumping all around the boat. It kinda freaked me out. Look who's calling who a woosie now!
